Curriculum

Beginner students will be required to purchase book one of the Violin Suzuki Method. I mainly adhere to the Suzuki Method supplemented with other materials to help bridge some gaps that I've seen in the learning process. While I use the Suzuki Method with most (if not all) students, I do not fully subscribe to the idea of learning music by ear exclusively. So, beginner students will also be required to purchase and use the I Can Read Music level one book in order to expedite the note learning process. Finally, I also teach using multiple technique "schools." The only technique book that I ask students to purchase right off the bat is the Doflien: The Beginning (Volume 1) technique study book. Apart from that, I will provide your student with all other etudes, studies, and exercises that I have compiled for use during lessons.

For intermediate to advanced players, the music/ repertoire becomes more suited to each students' needs. Some examples of books, and repertoire that your student may require include Solos for Young Violinists, Fun with Solos, J.S. Bach's Six Sonatas and Partitas, any of the standard concertos, and more!

As a general expectation, students are to practice at least the length of their lesson time six days a week (most importantly, the day of the lesson- after the lesson has taken place). That being said, brand new beginners may only need to practice for 10-15 minutes every day, since these students will have less material to master in between their lessons. Additionally, students will be asked to listen to their music daily. Students using the Suzuki method will have access to digital recordings, and most other recordings can be found on the internet.
